When a Plan Comes Together

So what happened last night...? I jacked in work around 3-ish and joined the guys at the Clare College Backs. The we got kicked out by porters, so we headed over to Trinity Backs - Neavester, The Setch, The Ethanator, Waders plus their better halves. And it was jolly pleasant, I'll say that. Hung for a couple hours and headed over to Jesus to watch The Big Match; the place was packed to the rafters. Anyway, we know how that turned out. The French + their comrades kept celebrations to a minimum, largey as a survival tactic. But, Ozzie boy Ant decided to smother me in banana peel, which was nice. To be honest, I had done the same to Vanessa not five minutes before. It all got very messy on the Jesus lawn. Jolly Japes!

Post Jesus we all tramped up to the all-girls Lucy Cavendish College on the whisper of free entrance and free refreshments. Enough to make any student walk twenty minutes. Ran into Adamski, Kipster, The Normanator and more Magdalene Mafia, which was fun. Great Jazz/Funk band, apparently called The Mother Funkers, although that would make them the 65th Jazz band in the country with that name, and they deserve better. Yes, there was the inevitable scuffle at Lucy Cav - something to do with the footie and too much testosterone no doubt. Some semi-official femi-biker chick started blaming me. I told her where to go in no uncertain terms.

Rode home at 1-ish, after outstaying my welcome. Chain came off bike. Replaced after much fumbling around in the dark and resulting greasy hands. Pushed off and chain snapped. Waddya gonna do, eh? Pushed the damn thing home and crawled into bed after a few classics on "Cambridge and Ely's STAR 107.9 FM!". Nice.

After a ropey start today, things picked up. It began with a call from Benji waking me to tell me my assignment was due in in about an hour (it takes me that long to get out of bed!) and becasue my bike chain snapped, I was reduced to pushing the thing around Cambridge trying to get it fixed in time.

But it all came together: handed my assignment in, paid a wedge of cash into my battered bank account, picked up my bike, picked up my Jesus May Ball ticket and bought a last minute mask (pictures tomorrow, for sure). Best of all, Nathan B and I ran into a busker playing Cat Stevens from inside a street trash can (picture provided courtesy of Max's Minolta-powered Picture Palace).

So, starting to gear up for tonight. This really is the big one. Looking at a 3 a.m finish at the earliest! Wish me luck people...tomorrows posting may not be so eloquent.

Then again there may not be a tommorrow...!
